Vive contemporaneamente con quattro donne\, adattando la sua storia e personalità a ciascuna di loro. La giornalista Sonia Kronlund\, con l’aiuto di un detective privato\, conduce un’indagine per smascherare questo impostore seriale. Il documentario esplora le sue molteplici vite immaginarie\, analizzando non solo le sue azioni\, ma anche il modo e il motivo per cui le ha compiute. Si pone una domanda fondamentale: i truffatori nascono tali o sono plasmati dalle loro menzogne? Attraverso una lucida esplorazione\, il film svela le motivazioni e le conseguenze delle azioni di quest’uomo\, offrendo uno sguardo intrigante e inquietante nella mente di un maestro dell’inganno. \nNOTE DI REGIA \nQuando ho iniziato a scrivere il progetto di questo documentario\, mi sono resa conto di essere ossessionata dalla questione del rapporto tra verità e menzogna\, che è allo stesso tempo una questione filosofica\, morale e politica. Quindi non mi sono imbarcata solo in un’inchiesta giornalistica\, ma ho piuttosto raccontato una storia selezionando aspetti della realtà per creare un film frutto di un approccio personale e impegnato. È però vero che ho provato una vera empatia per le donne raggirate e mi sono sentita vicina ad alcune di loro\, le cui vite riecheggiavano la mia.  \nBIO REGISTA \nSonia Kronlund (1966) è una regista\, autrice e giornalista francese. Dopo aver studiato filosofia alla Sorbonne e lettere moderne presso l’École Normale Supérieure di Fontenay-Saint-Cloud\, ha lavorato come autrice radiofonica e critica cinematografica per la rivista Cahiers du Cinéma. Per l’emittente radiofonica France Culture ha realizzato documentari sull’Afghanistan e l’Iran. Ha esordito come regista con Nothingwood\, documentario su Salim Shaheen\, uno dei registi più prolifici e famosi dell’Afghanistan\, presentato alla Quinzaine des réalisateurs al Festival di Cannes nel 2017. The Man with a Thousand Faces è il suo secondo film. \nPLOT \nTravelling around Europe\, a middle-aged man introduces himself as Alexandre\, Ricardo or Daniel\, claiming to be a surgeon or an engineer\, Argentinian or Brazilian. He lives simultaneously with four women\, adapting his story and personality to each of them. Journalist Sonia Kronlund\, with the help of a private detective\, conducts an investigation to unmask this serial impostor. The documentary explores his many imaginary lives\, analysing not only his actions\, but also how and why he carried them out. It asks a fundamental question: are con men born that way or are they shaped by their lies? Through a lucid exploration\, the film reveals the motivations and consequences of this man’s actions\, offering an intriguing and unsettling glimpse into the mind of a master of deception. \nDIRECTOR’S NOTE \nWhen I started writing the project for this documentary\, I realised that I was obsessed with the question of lies and truth\, which is at once a philosophical\, moral and political issue. So I wasn’t embarking on a journalistic investigation\, I was rather telling a story by sorting out aspects of reality to create a film that is the fruit of a personal and committed approach. It is true that I felt genuine empathy for these women and that I felt close to some of them\, whose lives echoed mine.  \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nSonia Kronlund (1966) is a French filmmaker\, author and journalist. After studying philosophy at the Sorbonne and modern literature at the École Normale Supérieure in Fontenay-Saint-Cloud\, she worked as a radio author and film critic for the magazine Cahiers du Cinéma. She has made documentaries on Afghanistan and Iran for the radio station France Culture. She made her directorial debut with Nothingwood\, a documentary about Salim Shaheen\, one of Afghanistan’s most prolific and famous directors\, which was presented at the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. The Man with a Thousand Faces is her second film.

Infatti\, mi sono concentrata sulla crescita di un’adolescente di oggi e sul suo destino. Questo personaggio\, Manon\, attraverso le sue interazioni con la nonna\, imparerà a scoprire la propria identità di donna. Ho voluto intenzionalmente contrapporre il punto di vista di un’adolescente nel pieno della costruzione della propria identità con la degenerazione della nonna\, di cui sarà testimone. Manon porta speranza e freschezza a questa storia di formazione. Ho immaginato un film che fosse allo stesso tempo leggero e profondo\, in cui il pubblico\, attraverso il personaggio di Manon\, possa avere il piacere di immergersi di nuovo negli anni ’90. \nBIO REGISTA \nElodie Lélu\, nata in Bretagna nel 1982\, ha studiato Storia dell’Arte a Parigi prima di trasferirsi in Belgio per frequentare l’Insas. Inizia la sua carriera con film documentari e poi passa alla fiction\, cercando di mescolare dramma e commedia. Il suo primo cortometraggio\, Leçons de conduite (2012) tratta la questione dell’aborto in modo leggero e originale\, e ha numerosi premi internazionali. Successivamente\, realizza Lettre à Théo (2018)\, un docu-fiction sul regista greco Théo Angelopoulos\, selezionato in vari festival tra cui Leipzig\, Rotterdam e Hot Docs di Toronto. Colocs de choc (2023) è il suo primo lungometraggio. \nPLOT \nManon\, a shy and introverted 16-year-old girl\, finds herself living with her grandmother Yvonne\, a former feminist activist suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Living together becomes difficult when Yvonne\, confused\, begins to mistake Manon for her daughter\, a mother figure Manon barely knows. Unexpectedly\, Manon decides to indulge her grandmother. This choice will lead her to explore the history of the women in her family\, revealing the secrets\, joys and challenges that marked their lives. Through this emotional journey\, Manon will embark on her own path of personal growth\, learning about her roots and finding her own identity\, facing the uncertainties of adolescence with new awareness and inner strength. \nDIRECTOR’S NOTE \nAlthough Alzheimer’s is my story’s inciting incident\, it isn’T the main theme. Indeed\, I concentrated on the coming of age of an adolescent today and her destiny. This character\, Manon\, through her interactions with her grandmother\, will learn how to discover her own identity as a woman\, I intentionally wanted to contrast the point of view of a teenager in the middle of her identity construction with the degeneration of her grandmother to which she will be a witness. Manon brings hope and a refreshing element to this coming-of-age story. I imagined a movie that is both lighthearted and profound\, one in which the audience\, through Manon’s chareater\, has the pleasure of being once again immersed in the 1990s. \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nElodie Lélu\, born in Brittany in 1982\, studied History of Art in Paris before moving to Belgium to attend Insas. She began her career with documentary films and then switched to fiction\, trying to mix drama and comedy. His first short film\, Leçons de conduite (2012) dealt with the issue of abortion in a light and original way\, and won several international awards. Next\, he made Lettre à Théo (2018)\, a docu-fiction about Greek director Théo Angelopoulos\, which was selected in various festivals including Leipzig\, Rotterdam and Toronto’s Hot Docs. The mole is in fact hiding among four high-ranking men: Percy Alleline\, Bill Haydon\, Roy Bland and Toby Esterhase\, respectively nicknamed the Tinker\, the Tailor\, the Soldier and the Poor-Man. With the help of agent Peter Guillam\, Smiley begins a clandestine investigation to unmask the traitor and protect national security. \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nTomas Alfredson\, born in 1965 in Lidingö\, Sweden\, is a director and screenwriter. The son of actor and director Hans Alfredson\, Tomas began his career directing Swedish television programmes and films. He gained international recognition with Let The Right One In (2008)\, a critically acclaimed horror film that won numerous awards\, including the Tribeca Film Festival Award for Best Narrative Feature and four Guldbagge Awards. In 2011\, he directed Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy\, which received three Oscar® nominations and won a BAFTA. Alfredson is known for his distinctive visual style and ability to create intense and engaging atmospheres.

L’umorismo è un elemento chiave della narrazione\, e ci sono molte situazioni comiche che nascono dalle interazioni tra la famiglia ricca e Carl\, oltre che tra i due fratelli. Non c’è una ragione valida per togliere la vita alla matrigna; se ci fosse\, la storia sarebbe completamente diversa. È proprio in questa assenza di giustificazioni che trovo l’umorismo del film. \nBIO REGISTA \nGunnbjörg Gunnarsdóttir è una regista di origini islandesi e norvegesi che vive a Bergen\, in Norvegia. To solve the problem\, the children ask for help from their grandmother\, who enthusiastically supports their project. Together\, they try to hire the law-abiding Carl\, however\, amid misunderstandings and laughter\, their heinous plan quickly turns into a series of comical misadventures. Who would have thought that hiring a hitman could be so much fun? \nDIRECTOR’S NOTE \nWith a satirical look at class division\, I wish to portray these two children from a wealthy family\, who feel privileged enough to persuade a law-abiding immigrant to do the job of an assassin – to get rid of their stepmother. Humor is an important part of the concept\, and there is a lot of comedy in the relationship between the wealthy family and Carl\, and also between the two siblings. There is no obvious reason to take the life of the stepmother\, if there was the story would have been completely different. This is where I feel the humor is\, at least my kind of humor. \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nGunnbjörg Gunnarsdóttir is a filmmaker of Icelandic and Norwegian descent living in Bergen\, Norway. Initially a self-taught photographer\, she started her career in 2012 making music videos and short films. In 2018 she wrote and directed her first feature film\, Forever and Never\, a film that deals with the topic of motherhood in a light-hearted way. The following year she co-directed the documentary The Art of Fallism\, which tackles the issue of racism and gender discrimination in South Africa. In un momento critico\, ogni 20 anni\, viviamo quel picco durante il quale alcune piccole cose sono sufficienti a portarci vicino alla catastrofe. \nBIO REGISTA \nDragan Bjelogrlić è uno dei più noti attori\, registi e produttori serbi\, con una carriera di attore che dura da 40 anni. Nato il 10 ottobre 1963\, dopo aver completato gli studi a Belgrado\, si iscrive alla Facoltà di Arti Drammatiche. Ha debuttato come attore a 15 anni nel film Bosko Buha (1978). Ha recitato in quasi 40 film\, circa 20 spettacoli televisivi e 11 opere teatrali. A group of young communist scientists\, led by Professor Dragoslav Popović\, are contaminated by a lethal dose of uranium during a secret experiment at the Vinča State Nuclear Institute in Yugoslavia. To receive experimental medical treatment\, they are secretly transferred to Paris\, to the Institut Curie clinic run by Dr Georges Mathé\, a well-known opponent of nuclear weapons. There are critical moments\, every 20 years\, when we experience that peak during which some small things are enough to bring us close to catastrophe. \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nDragan Bjelogrlić is one of Serbia’s best-known actors\, directors and producers\, with an acting career spanning 40 years. He lives simultaneously with four women\, adapting his story and personality to each of them. Journalist Sonia Kronlund\, with the help of a private detective\, conducts an investigation to unmask this serial impostor. The documentary explores his many imaginary lives\, analysing not only his actions\, but also how and why he carried them out. It asks a fundamental question: are con men born that way or are they shaped by their lies? Through a lucid exploration\, the film reveals the motivations and consequences of this man’s actions\, offering an intriguing and unsettling glimpse into the mind of a master of deception. \nDIRECTOR’S NOTE \nWhen I started writing the project for this documentary\, I realised that I was obsessed with the question of lies and truth\, which is at once a philosophical\, moral and political issue. So I wasn’t embarking on a journalistic investigation\, I was rather telling a story by sorting out aspects of reality to create a film that is the fruit of a personal and committed approach. It is true that I felt genuine empathy for these women and that I felt close to some of them\, whose lives echoed mine.  \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nSonia Kronlund (1966) is a French filmmaker\, author and journalist. Attualmente\, sta sviluppando nuovi progetti\, tra cui un documentario e l’adattamento di una graphic novel. \nPLOT \nIn Borneo\, near the rainforest\, Kéria takes care of a baby orangutan found orphaned on the palm oil plantation where her father works. Meanwhile\, her little cousin Selaï also takes refuge with them\, to escape the clashes between his Penan family\, the indigenous people of the forests of Borneo\, and the deforestation companies. United by a strong bond\, Kéria\, Selaï and the baby orangutan Oshi face numerous obstacles to protect the forest from being destroyed. Their great adventure will lead Kéria to rediscover her Penan roots and the universal values of solidarity\, respect and human dignity. And my father too – not only did he make things but he also repurposed stuff\, because throwing things away was just not done. After the death of her mother\, she and her twin brother Gilbert are raised by their father Percy\, a paraplegic and alcoholic former juggler. Despite the love that unites them\, a new tragedy befalls them when Percy dies in his sleep. The twins are separated: Gilbert is sent to a cruel evangelical family\, while Grace\, struggling with increasing loneliness\, holes up in her shell\, just like her beloved snails. One of my favourite roles is the Production Designer. […] For this film\, I wanted to keep the materials and aesthetic simple\, and use four basic materials; clay\, wire\, paper and paint. […] I wanted to celebrate the clay\, its lumps\, bumps and imperfections. I was born with a hereditary shake which I have incorporated into my aesthetic. […] Every asset had to look flawed\, asymmetrical; as if made in a hurry or by someone who was drunk. My character’s psyches are imperfect and so I wanted their appearance to match my drawings which are loose\, gestural and naive. \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nAdam Elliot is an Oscar©-winning independent animator and visual artist based in Melbourne\, Australia. We wanted to continue to narrate the relationship with power\, be it father or master\, the power that crushes you when it comes from family and alienates you when it comes from work. We tried to do this through the internal unrest of a young woman in a context that wants her to be a worker\, ignorant\, subjugated\, and that leads her to an unhealthy choice in search of an absence and a voice that becomes akin to a parallel life. \nDIRECTOR’S BIO \nSilvia Luzi and Luca Bellino are two Italian directors\, screenwriters and producers. Together they made the documentaries La minaccia (2008) and Dell’arte della guerra (2012). Punita severamente\, Paulette cerca di rimediare al suo errore e le chiede cosa desideri. Linda risponde che vorrebbe del pollo con i peperoni\, il piatto che le cucinava il papà prima di morire. Paulette promette di esaudire il desiderio\, ma un improvviso sciopero generale rende difficile trovare un pollo. Inizia così una rocambolesca\, frenetica ricerca nel quartiere\, tra incontri comici e imprevisti che coinvolgono tutta la comunità\, portando a ritrovare quel piatto speciale e a rafforzare il legame tra madre e figlia. \nNOTE DI REGIA \nLinda e il pollo è un film dolce e divertente adatto a tutta la famiglia: un film che parla dell’infanzia adottando il punto di vista di un bambino\, senza essere eccessivamente sentimentale o sopra le righe ma pieno di umorismo\, monellerie e poesia. Nel 2016\, ha diretto il lungometraggio animato La jeune fille sans mains\, presentato ai festival di Cannes e Annecy e nominato ai César.  \nPLOT \nLinda\, a little girl obsessed with her mother Paulette’s emerald ring\, is unjustly accused of losing it when their purple cat accidentally swallows it. After being severely punished\, Paulette tries to make amends and asks her what she desires. Linda replies that she wants chicken with peppers\, the dish her dad used to cook for her before he died. Paulette promises to fulfill her wish\, but an unexpected general strike makes it difficult to find a chicken. Thus begins a wild\, frantic search in the neighborhood\, filled with comedic and unexpected encounters that involve the entire community\, ultimately leading to the recovery of the special dish and strengthening the bond between mother and daughter. \nDIRECTOR’S NOTE \nChicken for Linda! is a sweet and funny film suitable for the whole family: a story about childhood told from a child’s perspective\, without being overly sentimental or exaggerated\, but full of humor\, mischief\, and poetry. La regista Yolande Zauberman indaga sulla leggenda di una giovane ragazza che\, minacciata di morte a causa della sua identità trans\, sarebbe fuggita dalla Striscia di Gaza a piedi fino a Tel Aviv. Tuttavia\, la storia della ragazza cambia con ogni intervista\, e la ricerca della sua misteriosa figura sfuma sullo sfondo\, lasciando emergere i volti e le voci delle donne che Zauberman incontra sulle sue orme. Tra loro\, Israela\, cresciuta ebrea ortodossa e sposata con un rabbino\, Nathalie\, assistita da un’amica dopo un intervento chirurgico\, e Nadine\, di origini beduine.  \nNOTE DI REGIA \nSe sono riservata durante le riprese di un film\, probabilmente è perché procedo in modo istintivo. Non condivido molto nemmeno con le persone con cui lavoro. Ma in fondo so cosa sto cercando e\, come in amore\, ho la sensazione che se formulo delle cose\, queste spariranno nel nulla. Inizio sempre balbettando il tipo di domande che un bambino farebbe se potesse parlare. […] Per me filmare è un atto d’amore. È anche una danza. È il punto d’incontro tra qualcosa di molto antico\, determinate ossessioni\, e qualcosa che è improvvisato e di cui bisogna seguire il ritmo.  \nBIO REGISTA \nYolande Zauberman (1955) è una regista e sceneggiatrice francese. Director Yolande Zauberman investigates the legend of a young girl who\, threatened with death because of her trans identity\, allegedly fled the Gaza Strip on foot to Tel Aviv. However\, the girl’s story changes with each interview\, and the search for her mysterious figure fades into the background\, allowing the faces and voices of the women Zauberman meets in her footsteps to emerge. She then directed her first fiction feature\, Me Ivan\, You Abraham (1993)\, which was followed by Clubbed to Death (1996) and The War in Paris (2001). In 2011\, Would You Have Sex with an Arab? was selected for the Venice International Film Festival. She received the César Award for Best Documentary for the film M ( 2020).
